Review of More femtocell noise.... but just how practical are they? by Will Cameron

1. TARGET AUDIENCE

The target audiences include businesses and home consumers interested in the latest wireless technology and related concerns.

2. TYPE OF DOCUMENT

I would classify this article as an informative technology blog entry.

3. SUMMARY OF ARTICLE

This article provides an informed description and introduction to femtocell technology and relevant opinions on the prospects for the technology. Femtocell technology is described to be a Voice over IP Wi-Fi access point technology intended for cellular handsets. In other words the article explores the prospects of installing a local, short range cell phone tower of sorts employing a broadband link, in the home or office.

4. CONCLUSION

The most important point involves the practicalities necessary to bring such technology to market, namely the apparent need for such phones to have duel modes, using the local femtocell access point while inside and typical cell phone technology while outside.

I would recommend this article to anyone who is interested in femtocell technology and already has a working understanding of its basic definition.

The personal insight I come away with is a greater appreciation for the breadth of WiFi technology in existence and on the horizon which can change the way we live. Alternatively WiFi security is also a major concern.
